Is this fact true? Mpox is now spreading in Singapore... with 10 cases reported so far. Time to SERIOUSLY resume your personal safety measures IMMEDIATELY. Start wearing Masks, Wash your hands & stay away from crowds. MOH warns that this is a HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.
Thanks for sending this in. While it is true that ten cases of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, have been detected in Singapore this year (as of Jul 27), all ten have been of the milder Clade II strain. There is also no evidence that the disease is spreading widely in Singapore. The current outbreak of mpox in Africa is driven by the Clade I and Clade lb strains. As at mid August 2024, these variants have not been detected in Singapore, although the Health Minister, Ong Ye Kung, has also stated that these strains are likely to be detected in Singapore in time, given our flight connectivity.
